Tippy is a Clun Forest N. Country Cheviot X

Our foundation stock comes from N. Country Cheviot crossed with a Suffolk.  The best of their daughters are used as our breeding stock which is then crossed with a purebred South Down ram,  giving us a durable, easy keeping/lambing ewe and lambs that demonstrate great growth on grass/legume pastures without inputs.

The North Country Cheviot is a hardy breed that is generally easy lambing, and has vigorous little lambs. The ewes have strong maternal skills and are incredibly protective of their lambs.

The Clun Forest ewes are a slighter ewe that are prolific lambers.  We  have found that when crossed with the South Down their lambs demonstrate good growth on grass with no inputs.  Overall the purebred ewes are not as hardy as our crossbred ewes.

The South Down is an old breed from the UK and has been very popular for many years in New Zealand. A favorite amongst grass forage "only" production models.  Our ram comes from a long line of genetics that originated in New Zealand and several of the rams were imported into BC, Canada,  approximately 40 years ago.  This particular line was brought into BC for its strong topline and larger carcass size than many of the South Down genetics found today. He consistantly throws vigorous lambs that finish well on grass.
