Our genetics come from a traditional foundation of Red Angus/Gelbvieh X. For the past 3 years we have been crossing our moms with Red Devon out of the herd in New Zealand and use a Red Galloway bull as a cover bull.  Both breeds help reduce the frame size, improve conversion on grass, and improved finishing on grass & legumes forage.

For the 2008 & 2009 breeding season we imported genetics from another line of Red Devon out of the Barnstaple herd in Gunnedah, NSW Australia.  We are very excited about this lineage & the Devon breed and this year's calves look great.  We look forward to our first embryo transplant calves in our 2010 calving season, establishing our first full blooded Red Devons in our herd next summer (2010).

In an effort to streamline the time, money and challenges associated with the importation of semen and embryos into Canada, Celista Springs Ranch (CSR) has entered into a more formal working relationship with Graeme Barnes of Barnstaple Devons and have imported a large number of semen straws & a handful of embryos for use within the CSR herd and are available for sale in Canada & abroad.  See our "Products/Semen & Embryos" link on the main menu above.

Our goal is to refine our herd genetics and produce beef that is easy to live with, is healthy to eat, is a pleasurable eating experience and flourishes in a grass based production model.  Give it a try , we think you’ll agree.
